Agile Patency Capsule Instructions
This test evaluates symptoms that may be related to disease involving your small intestine. It is done before proceeding with the Wireless Capsule Endoscopy to greatly reduce a small risk that the camera capsule could get stuck in your small intestine.
Most health insurance companies insist that you either have radiologic test of the small intestine (CT scan, barium x-ray, or MRI) for this procedure or that you have an Agile Patency Capsule Test. The advantages of the Agile Patency Capsule test over these other tests are:
- Confirmation that the camera capsule is not likely to get stuck in the small intestine (this is called “confirming intestinal patency”)
- Radiographic studies may not provide this same assurance
- Less expensive
- Less paperwork or having to call the insurance company for authorization
The Agile Patency Capsule is identical in size to the wireless video capsule and shows up on a simple plain x-ray of the abdomen. Unlike the wireless video capsule, it will begin to dissolve 30 hours after you ingest it.
Read all the information below and follow the instructions carefully so you have the best possible examination.
